HIV Risk?

vih

Was there a risk situation during sex? Anal intercourse without a condom? Or did the condom split? Sperm or blood in your mouth? Your partner was HIV-Positive and not undergoing an effective therapy or you don’t know ? Then don’t lose any time! Go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

1. If you have had a risk situation, seek advice, preferably, within 48 hours!

If necessary a PEP (HIV-Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) can be prescribed. PEP is a prophylactic medicinal treatment with antiretroviral medication, which lowers the risk but does not rule out a possible HIV infection. The quicker treatment is started, following a risk situation, the better.

Important: If you know the man with whom you had a risk situation, then take him along with you to the consultation.

A PEP reduces the risk of HIV by about 80%.

PEP is not a substitute for Safe Sex

2. 2. You can have a combo rapid test at Checkpoint; 15 days after a risk situation.

You will have the result within 30 minutes. A negative test result does not however rule out an HIV infection completely. Therefore, make sure you undergo an antibody test after 3 months.
