Community health centre

A Checkpoint is a health centre for gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM). The Checkpoints Vaud and Zürich also counsel transgender people and their partners.

Prevention & risk management

The risk of infecting oneself with HIV or other STI and transmission of these are dependant on various factors:

  • the number of sexual partners and what one has specifically agreed on with one’s partner.
  • the sexual practice and whether protection is used or not.
  • the diminution of risk, through different means, in infecting oneself or further transmitting HIV or another STI.

One can react to one or the other factor, in order to reach an acceptable level concerning the risks during sex for oneself and one’s partner

We give out information all year round with campaigns and counselling on these subjects and offer support.

The issue here, is not to eliminate every risk; that would be an illusion.

The point is to recognise and assess the risks, so that every man and woman can handle it :

  • Avoid risks which I, for myself, cannot accept
  • Act appropriately where risks are deliberately being taken.
