Community health centre

A Checkpoint is a health centre for gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM). The Checkpoints Vaud and Zürich also counsel transgender people and their partners.

Under transition one understands the process and realisation of being transgender to the point of arriving at the stage in life as to where you want to be with your sexual identity. For each transgender person it has a different meaning:
  • many wear clothes, a hairstyle, styling according to their sexual orientation
  • a new name is often chosen; an official name change is possible
  • adjustment steps are often taken: e.g. hormones, surgery, epilation, etc.
  • official civil status alteration is possible

Move along at your own pace and take those steps which are, now, personally important to you.

You decide how you want to live your transgender life. You can always make new decisions.

The journey is often not without hurdles. It’s very important to be well informed. Advice and interexchange with other transgender people make things a lot easier.

Contact the helpline for transgender people at the Checkpoint in Zürich or the Checkpoint in Vaud if you have any questions or you don’t know how to proceed.
